This past week, battling intractable time zones, unflattering webcams, and the fickle flickering fancy of Brady Bunch-style teleconference tech, Empower Generation’s inaugural Board of Directors was officially elected! So now, without further ado, it’s time to introduce our resident RET rockstars; Captain Planets of industry; international men & women of money-milking, brand-blasting, grant-grabbing, legal-eagling legend! I’m new to all this board member stuff, so I just keep saying “hereby” a lot and hoping for the best. The standing committees are in the process of being formed and our first official board meeting is coming up in January; expect blupdates soon. A blupdate is sort of like a mupload, only, well…different.

Meanwhile, back in Nepal:
Sita has been certified as a Level I Solar Technician by AEPC (Here’s the link to the newsletter if you feel like geeking out on Nepali government renewable energy activities). The training was co-organized by SEMAN whom we met with this past August. As a capacity building effort for private Nepalese companies working in the PV sector, the AEPC/ESAP trains local technicians of companies involved in installation and after-sales service of solar home systems.
Out of 82 people at Sita’s training in Chitwan, she was the ONLY woman. Out of 82 people, she was the ONLY small-business owner. Also, most of the technicians being trained alongside her worked for companies that only sell larger home-systems, not village-scale lights.
Unsurprisingly, she aced the test, said it was a breeze.
Congratulations, Sita, we could not be more proud!
